2014 Target Awards Recap - September 18, 2014 at Fifth Avenue in Royal Oak

If one were to look around, all you would see is other “early arrivals” looking around.

“Isn’t this supposed to be the Target Awards?” “Where are all those so-called superheroes?”

There were people standing around, some with a beverage in hand, others holding their coats, wondering where to sit, and still others standing at the side of a pool table looking down at what we discovered to be the Target Award winning entrants.

Suddenly, the vague feeling of something that could have been a cape! But gone as quickly as it seemed to appear. Once your eyes became used to the dark space, “POW!” Wasn’t that Batman? I think so! And again another delightful sensation “WOW!” Wonderwoman . . . “WOW, again” That’s Catwoman!

OK, that’s better…there are superheroes among us!

Then, the disturbing squeeeeel of electronic feedback, and the onslaught of stage lighting greeted our eyes . . . and onto the platform at the front of this huge room, walking purposely as he unbuttoned his shirt revealing the iconic “S” in red and blue.

He grabbed the microphone as though it was one of our famous super-villains like The Penguin ! or The Joker !“ Look! It’s Clark Kent!

Then, as our eyes settled up with the bright lights, we could see that no; it’s Alex Della Torre . . . who then went into a poorly-acted rant that went something like this: Faster than a speeding deadline! More powerful than an irate client! Able to leap tall assignments at a single bound! Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane!Nope . . . it’s a dmaDetroit member!

That’s right, and we’re all Super-marketers ... not strange visitors from another planet. Direct Marketers begin on Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of ordinary marketers! Even Superman ... who can change the course of mighty rivers, bend steel in his bare hands, and who, disguised as Clark Kent, mild-mannered reporter for a great metropolitan newspaper, fights a never-ending battle for success in the American market! "

Then a smiling Alex Dellatorre began the serious part of this important evening. Target Awards were presented to many category winners, following with the presentation of three special awards:

Golden Target

The most traditionally-coveted award, “The GoldenTarget Award” which is given for the most outstanding direct response effort in this highly-competitive field of marketing was earned by Meredith Xcellerated Marketing for their direct mail efforts for the Fiat 500e Launch.

Most Innovative Solution
Marketing Associates captured the award for the Most Innovative Solution, which is always the most intriguing of efforts. They won with their execution of the “Ford Mobility Motoring” website.

Most Bang for the Buck

Every direct marketer in the world shoots for this: the “Most Bang for the Buck” – and the Phire Group nailed it with their launch kit for the Merillat Brand New Product Launch.

Overall, a great time was had at the dmaDetroit 2014 Target Awards.
