Esteemed dmaDETROIT members and future members,

As the 2016-2017 dmaDETROIT fiscal year draws to a close we are assembling your 2017-2018 Board of Directors.  The current board would like to extend to you the opportunity to be on the ballot. If you are interested in having your name considered for the ballot, we would need from you a short bio by Monday April 24th. Please email to The format is typically 6-7 sentences, 150-200 words, including scholastic background, professional background, marketing background, and some personal tidbit. Also, please note the commitment is for a two year term that will require you to attend a two hour board meeting per month, typically from 6-8PM the 3rd Monday of each month. Dinner is provided.  The average time dedicated per board member is 5-10 hours per month, less in the summer months more from September through May. 


Below are some of the desired qualification, a list of benefits for board members, and some of the positions that may be open for the July 2017-June 2018 fiscal year.


  • Current or past position held in the direct marketing industry
  • Typically a dmaDetroit.  If not a member, you should join before being placed on the ballot.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Participation in dmaDetroit events as an attendee
  • Past dmaDetroit committee experience
  • Other volunteer, board or leadership experience that qualifies you for a board position
  • Note: If none of the preferred qualifications are met, please provide an explanation as to why you should be considered as a candidate to join the Board of Directors.

Description of positions on Board of Directors:

  • AIMS Chair: The responsibilities of the AIMS Chairs include preparation and oversight of the AIMS budget, pre-event planning, assisting in obtaining speakers and sponsors, and supporting the AIMS committee to ensure another successful event.

  • Membership: The role of the Membership Chair is to identify and recruit new members and help with member retention efforts.  Through a combination of personal visits, telephone contact, and marketing campaigns, prospects are identified, qualified and recruited for various levels of individual and corporate membership.

  • Target Awards Chair: The role of the Target Awards Chair is to plan a successful Target Awards, remaining within financial and timeline guidelines.  This includes venue procurement, theme development and planning a spectacular night celebrating the successes of Detroit’s direct marketing community.

  • Programs (Luncheons/Mixers): The role of the Programs Chair is to plan and implement monthly luncheons  (4 per year) and special events programs, with board and presidential input and review. Planning includes venue and A/V management, identifying and recruiting speakers, committee liaison with speakers, publicity and sponsorships.

  • Secretary: Maintain records all of meetings, schedules and deploy notices. Serve as the director of all membership activities, ensuring that recruitment and renewal of members is conducted annually.

  • Vice President: The Vice President, in the absence of the President, shall preside at all meetings of the Corporation and shall serve as a Director of all program activities of the Corporation, and insure that Program Committees are providing timely, comprehensive and effective activities to the Membership. The Vice President is next in line to become the president for the following fiscal year upon board major vote.

  • Social Media: Manage and coordinate social media posts through LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter for all association events, new member announcements, association news, etc.

  • Website: Maintain content on website to reflect the latest news and events. Archive event material for historical purposes. Manage event registration set-up and membership sing-up and renewal links.

I can personally attest to the benefits of serving as dmaDetroit board member. In the 10 years I have served my Direct Marketing knowledge, connections and leadership skills have reached a new level.
